Services For LeRoy Ditzler

LeRoy Ditzler, 80, passed away early Friday morning, 3:50 a.m., at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Reinbeck. Funeral services were held Sunday, February 25, 1979 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Dike with the Rev. James F. Hanke officiating.

Craig DeBerg sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross". He was accompanied by Mrs. John Paige who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casketbearers were Erik Christiansen, Guy Rich, Ben Clapp, Laurence Koch, Donald Rittgers and Marius Jensen. Ushers were John Mulder and Russell Hohenberger. Ladies in charge of the floral arrangements were Mrs. Jack Heritage and Mrs. Ben Clapp. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Dike where graveside military rites were conducted by the Dike American Legion Post #471. Relatives and friends were invited back to the church following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Ditzler was born January 17, 1899, in Belle Plaine. He attained the age of 80 years, 1 month and 6 days. He grew up in Belle Plaine and graduated from the Belle Plaine high school. He entered the Army during World War I on May 27, 1918, and was honorably discharged on March 19, 1919. He spent most of his time overseas in France.

On August 23, 1920, at Grundy Center, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Hoffman. After their marriage they ran the Ditzler Cafe in Dike for 56 years, retiring in the summer of 1978. He became a resident of the Parkview Manor Nursing Home on July 31, 1978. He was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church, the Dike American Legion Post #471 and the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, a resident of the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Reinbeck, and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
