Obituary of W. R. Larsen

The community was saddened on Saturday morning to hear of the death of W. R. Larson, which occurred at his home in this city at an early hour that morning. Mr. Larsen had been a long and patient sufferer from that dreaded disease, tuberculosis. Everything that human hand and tender care could do was done to alleviate his suffering, but that disease had become securely fastened upon him.

William Raleigh Larsen was born in Fairfield township, Grundy county, Ia., March 6, 1871 and died at his home in Dike April 30, 1921, aged 50 years, 1 month and 24 days. He was united in marriage with Myrtle M. Belt on November 21, 1905. He leaves to mourn his death his wife and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Eliasen of Plainfield, Iowa, and Mrs. Annie Chase of Dike, one brother, Lars A. Larsen of Los Angeles, California. Two brothers died in infancy in Denmark and two brothers, Christen and Peter Larsen of Dike and one sister, Mrs. Carrie Winters of Cedar Falls, also preceded him to the great beyond.

Funeral services were held at the Dike M.E. church Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Holst of the Fredsville Lutheran church of which the deceased was a member, assisted by Rev. F. A. Smith. Interment was made in the Dike cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Larsen left the farm in Fairfield township about three years ago and spent one year traveling in the west by auto in hopes it would benefit Mr. Larsen's health but to no avail and they returned to Cedar Falls, where they made their home with Van Chase and wife until moving to Dike where they built a beautiful home, a year ago.

Mr. Larsen was a quiet, unassuming man and a kind and loving husband. Having been raised in this vicinity, he was well and favorably known as attested by the large congregation of friends who gathered at the church to pay their last respects to their departed neighbor.
