Rites Held For Jay H. Dieken
Jay Harold Dieken of RR1, Dike, passed away at 2:07 a.m. Monday, June 30, at the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church, Dike, on Wednesday, July 2, at 2 p.m. Rev. Shirley Textor officiated.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Graves sang "Until Then" and "Beyond The Sunset". The accompanist was Mrs. John Paige, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
The casket bearers were Mike Dieken, Robert Meester, Marvin Groote, Gary Andersen, Duane Arends, and Billy Freese.
The ushers were Edgar Abels and John Volberding. Mrs. Mervin VanDeest and Mrs. Eldon Dieken were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike, where military services were conducted by the Dike American Legion Post #471.
Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal services for refreshments.
Mr. Dieken was born on April 17, 1947, at the Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown, the son of Hiriam H. and Lillian Stahl Dieken. He attained the age of 39 years, two months, and 13 days.
He lived with his parents on a farm in Lincoln township and later they moved to Colfax township near Holland where he grew up. He attended school in Holland, Grundy Center, and Dike. He graduated from the Dike high school in 1965.
After graduating from school, he served in the Air Force for four years, stationed in Newburgh, NY. After returning home from the service he worked for the Dike Feed Store and Geerlings and John Deere in Waterloo. He was self-employed for the last five years.
He was united in marriage to Sue Kirk on September 15, 1984, at the Dieken family farm in rural Dike.
He was a past member of the Colfax Center United Presbyterian Church, where he received his Christian education. He was presently attending the Dike United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hiriam in 1972.
He is survived by his mother, Lillian Dieken of Grundy Center; his wife, Sue of RR1, Dike; and two daughters, Amy and Audrey Dieken of Grundy Center.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
