Henry Bulthuis, 67, Dies Unexpectedly

Henry "Hank" Albert Bulthuis, 67, passed away very unexpectedly last Saturday morning. During Saturday morning he had breakfast at a local cafe and visited with friends, and then went to the Gray & Wood Store where he was stricken with a fatal heart attack. Members of the Dike Volunteer Fire Department rushed him to Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

Memorial services for Henry Bulthuis were held at the United Methodist Church in Dike on Tuesday afternoon, July 6. Rev. Martin Stegink, pastor at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church officiated.

Pall bearers for the services were Laurence Koch, Arthur Slifer, Gordon Sloth, Fred Timmer, Clark Uhl and Andrew Groote. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Graves presented vocal selections. Organ music was by Mrs. Alice Mayer.

Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike. The Dike Funeral Chapel were in charge of the arrangements.

Henry Bulthuis was born near Reinbeck on Nov. 26, 1903, the son of Ralph and Henrietta Berends Bulthuis. He was a farm laborer. He was always a willing and dependable worker for daily farm work and chores for Dike and area farmers who needed extra help for a day or so or for extended vacations. The last few years he had made his home with his sister, Mrs. Henrietta Marks.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Kate Marks of Holland and Mrs. Henrietta Marks of Dike; one brother, Alfred Bulthius of Parkersburg and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
