Hans Johansen, Age 92, Dies

Hans Theodor "Teddy" Johansen of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown and formerly of Dike passed away at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, January 4, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services were held at the Dike Funeral Chapel, Dike, on Tuesday, January 7, at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf officiated.

Taped musical selections were played for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Tom Rich, Ben Clapp, Gordon Sloth, Jack Heritage, Gerald Bruns, and Leonard Posekany.

Mrs. Alice Mayer and Mrs. John Volberding were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike, where graveside military services were conducted by the Dike American Post #471.

Mr. Johansen was born on August 29, 1893, in Glostrup, Denmark, the son of Laurence Peter and Louise Caroline Lunders Johansen. He attained the age of 92 years, four months, and five days.

He went to school and completed the eighth grade in Denmark. He came to America and settled in the Dike area. He worked for various farmers in the Dike area.

He served his country in the Army during WWI. He had a lifetime membership in the Dike American Legion Post.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.

He is survived by two brothers, Alfred and Anton; two sisters, Anna and Margaret, all of Denmark; and by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Helga Johansen of Dike.

The Dike Funeral Chapel, Dike, was in charge of the arrangements.
