Carl Huntbatch Dies Suddenly

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Dike Methodist church for Carl William Huntbatch, 47, who died suddenly early Thursday morning, Feb. 18, at 4:30 a.m. Rev. Harry Gleim was in charge of the services. "In the Garden" was sung by a quartet, Mrs. Jack Heritage, Mrs. Harry Timmer, Mrs. John Volberding and Mrs. Glen DeBower, accompanied by Mrs. Joseph Bohr, organist.

Military services were performed at Dike Elmwood cemetery by members of Dike American Legion Post No. 471.

Pallbearers were Gerald Bruns, Lester Posekany, Verner Sloth, Gerald Krull, Thomas Johnson and Gaylen Stewart. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Thos. Johnson, Mrs. Lester Posekany and Mrs. Verner Sloth.

Members of the Legion Auxiliary were in charge of the dinner served to family members Saturday noon. The WSCS served coffee and lunch at the C&G Cafe after the services.

Among those attending from a distance included the towns of Chicago, Rockwell, Geneva, Iowa Falls, Hampton, and others.

Carl William Huntbatch was born May 7, 1912, at Geneva, Ia., son of John S. and the late Mrs. Huntbatch. He graduated from Geneva high school in 1931. He served 5 years in the U.S. Army. Returning from the service, he worked as a mechanic in Hampton, Iowa Falls and Cedar Falls.

He came to Dike in 1949 and worked for Doyle and Kramer until fire destroyed their implement business.

On Oct. 17, 1953, he married Gail Kappelman Cox.

He worked at the Al Matson Case Co. in Cedar Falls for a year before opening the Huntbatch Sales and Service Co. here in 1954.

He was a member of the Dike American Legion Post and of the Methodist church at Geneva.

Survivors include his widow; 2 stepchildren, Joan and Donald, at home; and one step-granddaughter, Angela; a grandmother, Mrs. John Huntbatch of Hampton; his father, John S. Huntbatch, Geneva; two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Studer, Geneva, and Mrs. Robert Sanders, Sheffield; two brothers, Edward and Fred, of Geneva.

He was preceded in death by his mother who died last Oct. 8.
