Services Held Wednesday For Pete Fairbanks

Clark "Pete" Fairbanks of Dike passed away at 5:13 p.m. Saturday, January 17, at the Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church, Dike, on Wednesday, January 21, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Shirley Textor officiated.

Craig DeBerg sang "In The Garden," and "How Great Thou Art." He was accompanied by Mrs. John Paige, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Ben Clapp, Jim Biersner, Pete Badje, Robert Cain, Guy Rich and William Bohr.

The ushers were John Volberding and Jack Heritage. Mrs. Lois Doddema and Mrs. Evelyn Dall were in charge of the floral arrangements.

The committal service was held immediately following the funeral service. Relatives and friends were invited to remain at the church following the services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Mr. Fairbanks was born September 22, 1907, in Riceville, the son of Arthur and Julia Schnoover Fairbanks. He attained the age of 79 years, three months and 25 days.

He was united in marriage to Flora Betts at Osage in 1925. He worked for Raths for 27 years. They moved to Dike in 1947. He owned and operated the Fairbanks Cafe in Dike, then worked for E. K. Anderson Plumbing for a couple of years. He was then a bartender at the West Side Tavern in Dike and retired in 1974.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Flora, in 1964, one son, five brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by Faye Johnson; one son, Dale of Lincoln; one brother, Charles, of Waterloo; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Clausen of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Dike Funeral Chapel of Dike was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
