Funeral Services Sunday, Dec. 2nd, For Jennie I. Engel

Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon at the United Methodist church in Dike for Mrs. Jennie Engel, 79.

Mrs. Engel died at Windsor Care Center, Cedar Falls, Thursday evening, Nov. 29, of complications of age.

The Rev. Robert Hoover Jr. officiated at the 2 p.m. service. "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art" were musical interludes played by organist, Mrs. John Paige, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Scott Evans, Gene Hartson, Larry Everts, Clifford Damm, Kenneth Krumlinde and Vaughn Engel.

Jack Heritage and John Volberding served as ushers. Flower attendants were Mrs. Tena Duisman, Mrs. Naomi Roberts and Mrs. Ida Madsen.

Interment was in Elmwood cemetery, Dike.

Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church fellowship room following the committal services.

Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements, which permitted viewing at the Chapel on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday morning till the body was transferred to the church for viewing prior to the services.

Jennie Isabelle Lynn was born April 10, 1894, at rural Reinbeck, the daughter of David and Cora McDowell Lynn. She married Adam Egel on Sept. 1, 1912, at Reinbeck. They farmed there until his death July 29, 1937. Mrs. Engel moved to Dike shortly after his death. She was a practical nurse and midwife for many years, and then was the cook at the Paige Cafe till 1960. She then did babysitting for numerous Dike families.

Mrs. Engel had been a resident of Windsor Care Center since March, '73.

She was a member of United Methodist church and a past member of the Dike American Legion Auxiliary Unit.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Lynn of rural, Dike, Mrs. Keith (Melva) Evans of Waterloo and Dr. Ross Engel, Ames; one brother, Harold Lynn, Winthrop; five sisters: Mrs. Alta Krumlinde of Floyd, Mrs. Hazel Miller of Brownsville, Texas, Mrs. Dora Willsey of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Ruth Van Tassel of Parkersburg, and Mrs. Cora Damm of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Engel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, two brothers, and one sister.
