Hold Memorial Services For Milo Middleton

Milo Middleton passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, where he had been a patient since Feb. 14. He attained the age of 83 years, five months, 27 days.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, at 10:00 a.m. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. The Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf of the Bethany Presbyterian Church will be officiating.

Burial of the cremains will take place at a later date in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Milo M. Middleton was born at Conrad on August 24, 1904, the son of Asa Claude and Alcie Twiss DePew Middleton. He graduated from the Beaman High School in 1922.

On June 20, 1929, Milo and Johanna Muller were united in marriage at Waukon.

He was in the barber business from 1922 to 1978, retiring when he was 74 years of age. During these years, he barbered in Wellsburg and in Grundy Center. While in Grundy Center, he worked with Buck Johnson and later owned and operated his own shop called Middleton's Barber Shop in the basement of the old Corner Drug Store on the corner of Main and 7th Streets.

During WWII, he served his country in the Navy Seebees from 1942 to 1945 in the South Pacific.

He served for eight years on the Grundy Center City Council and 13 years on the Grundy County Draft Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Johanna, on May 26, 1981; and by one brother, Arnett Middleton.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Michael Middleton and Nancy Padgett of San Francisco, CA; one daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Toni Middleton and Daniel Detzner of Minneapolis, MN; one brother, Caryl Middleton of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Jessica and Althea Middleton Detzner.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
