Henry Boyenga Of Alden Dies

Elevator Manager, Had Been Mayor

Alden--Henry W. Boyenga, 67, manager of the Alden elevator since 1941, died early Monday morning at Ellsworth Municipal hospital in Iowa Falls after suffering a heart attack Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Scott funeral home in Alden, and at 2 p.m. from the First Baptist Church in Iowa Falls.

The Rev. Louis R. Johnson, pastor of Central Baptist Church of Waco, Texas, a long-time friend of Mr. Boyenga, will officiate at the rites, and interment will be in St. Peter's Church cemetery north of Iowa Falls.

Mr. Boyenga was born in Germany Aug. 26, 1887, son of A. A. and Rena Boyenga. In 1901 he came to America with his parents, and they settled on a farm near Iowa Falls.

He served in the army from May 13, 1918 to July 5, 1919, with the signal corps as an interpreter in France and Luxemberg during the first world war.

He was married July 22, 1919 to Bertha Sweiter. He was manager of the grain companies in Ackley, Chapin, Steamboat Rock and Alden. He had been at Alden since July 22, 1941.

He was converted while enroute to France in 1918, and was always active in church work. At the time of his death he was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as teacher of the adult Sunday school class.

Mr. Boyenga was mayor of Alden from 1946 to 1949, and also served on the town council. He was active in the American Legion, and served as post and county commander, and as post chaplain. For several years he was chairman of the Salvation Army in Alden.

In October, 1949, he suffered a heart attack from which he recovered sufficiently to continue with his work. He suffered another attack Saturday, from which he never regained consciousness.

Surviving are his widow; two sons, Raymond of St. Louis, Mo., and Harold of Fort Dodge; a daughter, Lucida, Mrs. Roy Nolte of Tokyo, Japan; four granddaughters and three grandsons; a sister, Mrs. Dena Moore of Hampton, and six brothers, Abe of Ashton, Ill., Tom of Waterloo, Hedwig of Belvidere, Ill., S. F. Boyenga of Grenville, S.C., Otto of Franklin Grove, Ill., and Ray of Dayton, Ohio, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers at the services will be John Price, Ralph Wolfe, Harold Daley, John Anderson, Floyd Fiscus and Earl McClelland.

Alden Rites For Henry Boyenga

Services were held in the Scott Funeral Home in Alden yesterday for Henry W. Boyenga, 67, manager of the Alden elevator since 1941.

Mr. Boyenga died early Monday morning after suffering a heart attack last Saturday.

He was manager of grain companies in Ackley, Chapin, Steamboat Rock and Alden. He was the mayor of Alden from 1946 to 1949 and also served on the town council.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Raymond of St. Louis, Mo. and Harold of Fort Dodge; a daughter, Mrs. Roy Nolte of Tokyo, Japan.
