Murtaugh C. Murphy

Murtaugh C. Murphy, 49, of 114 Lombard street, operator of Murphy's Barber shop at 925 West Fifth street for the past 17 years, died Friday at 11:15 p.m. in St. Francis hospital of a heart ailment. He had been a patient there since last Sunday.

Born on Apr. 21, 1897, in Grundy county, he was the son of William and Elizabeth Murphy.

He married Laura W. Christensen on Nov. 22, 1920, at Cedar Rapids, Ia.

A barber here for the past 20 years, he was a veteran of World War I and held membership in King Marson chapter No. 11, Disabled American Veterans; Veterans of Foreign Wars post No. 1623, and the Loyal Order of Moose.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Joseph C., at home; one daughter, Elizabeth, at home; four brothers, Raymond, 1221 Jefferson street; John, 609 1/2 Commercial street; William, Los Angeles, Cal., and Cornelius J., Chicago, and two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Panke, Cleveland, O., and Katherine, Woodward, Ia.

He was preceded in death by one daughter and one sister.

Funeral services will be Monday at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart church. The Sacred Heart Rosary society will meet Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at O'Keefe & Towne funeral home to recite the rosary. Burial will be at Calvary cemetery.
