Wellsburg Man Struck By Auto Dies Of Injuries
William Neessen, 42, Suffers Skull Fracture; Former Waterloo Resident
William Neessen, 42, Wellsburg, Ia., died at 11:30 a.m. Monday in St. Francis hospital, Waterloo, from a cerebral hemorrhage caused when he was struck by an automobile driven by Cecil Luitjens, Wellsburg, one mile east of that community at 11 p.m. Saturday.
Neessen was brought to the hospital from his cousin's home at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Wellsburg man was struck as he was alighting from an automobile driven by Meint Huisman of Wellsburg in order to cross the road to the farm home of Heiko G. Neessen, his cousin. The victim and his brother-in-law, Raymond Murphy, started across the road as two automobiles approached from the east.
Struck by Second Car
Murphy crossed in front of the first car, but Neessen was struck by the second, driven by Luitjens, and his skull was fractured. Witnesses held the drive blameless.Neessen, who lived for seven years at 64 Parker street east, Waterloo, and who was employed at that time by the Waterloo Construction company, had been living at the home of his mother, Mrs. Thomas L. Neessen, Wellsburg, while out of work. His wife, Mrs. Mayme Neessen, had been living with her mother on a farm 10 miles east and one mile south of Waterloo on highway No. 20.
Brother Resides Here
Besides his widow and mother, Neessen is survived by a brother, two half-brothers, two sisters and three half-sisters. His brother, Thomas L. Neessen, jr., resides at 1706 Bertch avenue. Half-brothers are Heiko T. Neessen, residing near Wellsburg, and John Neessen, Parkersburg.Sisters are Mrs. Raymond Murphy, Wellsburg, and Mrs. Claus Claassen, Holland, Ia. Half-sisters are Mrs. Sam Claassen, Grundy Center; Mrs. Anno Peters, Parkersburg, and Mrs. Dena Ontjes, Holland. A brother, Henry T. Neessen of Grundy Center, was killed in an automobile accident three years ago.
William Neessen was born Sept. 29, 1890, in Wellsburg. He married Miss Mayme Flanagan in Wellsburg, April 17, 1922. He was a member of the American Legion, having served nine months in France as a corporal.
The body was taken to the O'Keefe & Towne mortuary.
