Services Held For Delbert Niehaus

Delbert Niehaus of Parkersburg died at the age of 64 years, nine months and 16 days of age of 5:30 a.m. Sunday, December 23, 1979 in Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He suffered from cancer for over a year.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 1979 in the Aplington Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Patet officiating the service. Mrs. Alan Ostercamp was organist and Henry Groeneveld and Sherman Limburg sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Casketbearers were John J. Abbas, John Hoodjer, John Spain, Edwin Stahl, Harlan Kneppe and Clarence Ostercamp. Interment followed in Oak Hill cemetery in Parkersburg.

Delbert Merle Niehaus was born the son of Minert and Jennie Lindeman Niehaus on March 7, 1915, near Buck Grove in Grundy county where he lived with his parents. He attended Aplington high school and served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

On August 21, 1951, he was married to Dorothy Smit and later on August 24, 1964 was united in marriage to Delight Dellinger in Galena, Ill. Delbert farmed one mile north of Wellsburg until 1973 when he moved to Parkersburg.

He was a member of the Aplington Baptist Church in Aplington.

Mr. Niehaus is survived by his wife, Delight, one son, Merle, living at home in Parkersburg, 4 daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Karen) Ferry of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Vernon (Marvel) Watts of Raytown, Mo., Mrs. Rollyn (Cheryl) Hartman and Mrs. Kenneth (Tonya) Henricks, both of Aplington; 2 grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
