Services Held For Ben Viet

Ben G. Viet passed away Saturday, October 6, at the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville at the age of 63 years, seven months and five days.

Funeral services were held at the Bethany Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center on Wednesday, October 10, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Calvin Vanderwerf officiated.

Wayne Arends was the vocalist and Elaine Schnell was organist.

Casket bearers were Ronald Bakker, Charles Bakker, Delbert VanHauen, Dennis Viet, Vernon Beninga and Dale VanHauen.

Interment was in the Grundy Center Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Ben George Viet, son of George and Fannie Berends Viet was born on a farm near Stout in Grundy County on March 1, 1921. He was educated in the Grundy County Rural Schools. He later served in the Armed Forces during World War II.

On September 2, 1944, he was united in marriage to Irene Kuper at the home of her parents in Wellsburg. Ben farmed and worked as a lineman for the Grundy County REC for 14 years. Ben worked for the city of Traer Municipality and was a self employed electrician.

On February 3, 1968, he was united in marriage to Elaine Wolters in North Sioux City, SD. Ben attended the Presbyterian Church. He retired in December of 1982.

He is survived by his wife Elaine of Iowa Falls; two sons, Robert Viet of Waterloo and David Viet at home in Iowa Falls; four daughters, Mrs. Tom (Cheryl) Brooks of Jackson, MN, Mrs. James (Jeanine) Ackermann of Lakefield, MN, Ardith Viet of Kansas City, and Delaine Viet at home in Iowa Falls; four grandchildren; two brothers George Viet of Dike and Herman Viet of Reinbeck; three sisters, Mrs. Herman (Martha) VanHauen of Grundy Center, Mrs. Louis (Jennie) Bakker of Dike and Mrs. Elizabeth Clapp of Dike.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one grandson.

The Surls Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
