Obituary of John J. Frey

John J. Frey, son of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Frey of Ackley, Iowa, was born on October 11, 1895.

As a young man, he served in World War I from June 26, 1918 to June 11, 1919. A good part of that time was spent on the field of battle in France.

On February 22, 1923, he was united in marriage to Mary Hahn of Allison, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children. They farmed near Allison, Wellsburg and Aplington before retiring and moving to Aplington, Iowa, in February, 1960.

Mr. Frey was a very active member of the Pleasant Valley Evangelical United Brethren Church until he and his wife transferred their membership to the First Reformed Church of Aplington in September, 1965.

Mr. Frey had been ailing for some time. He had been hospitalized frequently in the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, and one time in the University Hospital in Iowa City. His condition gradually worsened until he was called from this earthly life Saturday morning, March 8, 1969, at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 25 days.

Mr. Frey was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister and 2 brothers.

Surviving are his widow; 3 children: Leslie of Aplington, Ruth (Mrs. Jake Paterni) of Wellsburg and Gladys (Mrs. Arnold Bettenga) of Aplington; 2 brothers: Harm of Bristow and Henry of Allison; 1 sister: Mrs. George Luchtenberg of Clarksville; 8 grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
