Fred W. Getting Died Suddenly

Fred W. Getting, 73, of Grundy Center died suddenly early Sunday morning of an apparent heart attack while visiting at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Hartman, in Dubuque.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 in the Bethany Presbyterian church with Rev. Calvin Vanderwerf officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery, Grundy Center.

Mr. Getting was born at Little Rock, Iowa February 2, 1897, the son of William and Grace Snittjer Getting. The family moved to Grundy county when Fred was 3 years old. He served in the army in World War I from Sept. 6, 1918 to March 24, 1919. On July 2, 1919 Fred Getting and Sarah Diekman were united in marriage at Wellsburg. They farmed near Holland for 13 years, and moved to Grundy Center in 1932. Mr. Getting was engaged in general trucking, operated a service station, and was employed in the Ubbe Petersen Implement Co. for a number of years. Prior to his retirement he served as a school bus driver for three years.

Surviving are his widow, three children, Wallace of Grundy Center, Mrs. James (Marcella) Hartman of Dubuque and Mrs. Ivan (Eunice) Flater of Grundy Center; also 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

He was a member of World War I barracks 1418.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
