Jane E. Tapper

Jane Evelyn Tapper, age 81, of 605 Conn Street, Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of Carl and Hattie Hayenga Dirksen, on March 20, 1917, in Marion Township, Ogle Co., Illinois.

On August 7, 1943, Jane Evelyn Dirksen was united in marriage with Otto Wilhelm Tapper in Oregon, Illinois. They made their home on the family century farm south of Stout, Iowa. Jane was a loving homemaker and for a few years she was a Nurses Aid at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, Iowa. She moved to Parkersburg in 1973.

Jane was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout. She enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren, having breakfast, coffee and playing cards with her friends, putting together jig saw puzzles and having a picnic lunch while fishing.

On Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at 10:15 a.m. Jane died from natural causes at the Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa. She reached the age of 81 years and 5 days. Jane was preceded in death by her husband Otto Tapper on March 18, 1971; a daughter Patti Kay; a grandson, Damien; and her parents.

Jane is survived by three sons, Vernon Tapper and his wife Sue of Parkersburg, Iowa, Gary Tapper and his wife Barb of Grinnell, Iowa, and Gaylen Tapper of Portland, Oregon; five grandchildren, Melissa, Jennifer, Shane, Lisa and Laura Tapper and three brothers, Andrew Dirksen of Chana, IL, Carol Dirksen of Oregon, IL, and Paul Dirksen of Rockford, IL.

Funeral services were held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 1998 at the Reformed Church of Stout in Stout, Iowa, with Rev. Carl Gearhart officiating. Organist was Elaine Schnell. Congregational hymns were: "Jesus I Have Promised", "Anywhere With Jesus", and "This World Is Not My Own." Casketbearers were: Bob Tapper, Randy Konken, Bill Welty, Mervan Meyer, Roger Nederhoff, and Delbert Hemmen. Flower committee was: Marlys Konken, Minerva Juel, Isabelle Eiklenborg. Interment was in the Stout Cemetery, Stout, Iowa.

Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of the arrangements.
