Henry Frederick Brower was born on March 31, 1913, to John and Anna Brower near Geneva, Iowa. Raised in rural Geneva, Henry was educated at Maysville School. He married Nettie Ruter on November 30, 1939, in Wellsburg, Iowa.
Henry and his wife Nettie farmed in Franklin County and later moved to Wellsburg, Iowa, where he owned and operated Brower Surge Equipment. In 1957 Henry and his wife moved to their farm near Iowa Falls, Iowa, where they lived until 1992. Then they retired to Sioux Center. They wintered in Texas for more than twenty years.
Henry was a charter member of Iowa Falls Christian Reformed Church, later a member of Second Wellsburg Christian Reformed Church and most recently a member of Covenant Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He enjoyed serving on consistories and Christian school boards and also was involved in certain farm organizations.
Henry was known by friends and family for his clever wit, practical jokes and pleasure in playing games. He modeled a gentle Christian character and counted it a privilege to be responsible for the stewardship of the land he farmed.
He is survived by his son Joel (Jean) Brower of Byron Center, Michigan, and a daughter Jerelyn (Dave) Schelhaas of Sioux Center; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; also by his brother Alfred Brower and numerous nieces and nephews.
