J. L. Turner Dies From Apoplexy

End Came Suddenly Wednesday Afternoon

Went to Sleep and Didn't Wake Up

J. L. Turner died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Snovel in Melrose township at 5:30 yesterday afternoon. Apoplexy is given as the cause of his death. Mr. Turner drove to the Snovel farm Monday afternoon with some meat that he was to have smoked. He was ready to return home and had walked out to his buggy when he became dizzy and said he believed he would go back into the house to lie down a bit. Mr. Snovel had to assist him back to the house. He was laid on a couch and dropped off to sleep at once and he slept on until he drew his last breath. All efforts to awake him were unavailing.

Funeral services will be held at the Ivester church at 2:15 Friday afternoon.

Mr. Turner was 51 years, 9 months and 22 days old. He was married about thirty years ago after he had resided in the county for a number of years. He was a successful farmer and a man who was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He is survived by a wife, two daughters and one son.

John Lewis Turner

John Lewis Turner was born at Phoenixville, Pa., May 18, 1858, and died in Grundy county, Iowa, March 9, 1910, aged 51 years, 9 months, 21 days. In 1881 he came from Pennsylvania to Mt. Carroll, Ill., and from there to Grundy county, Iowa, in 1889, where he has since lived. He was married to Mary Hess Feb. 22, 1891, and to them were born three children. He united with the Church of the Brethren in 1894.

The deceased and wife were calling at one of their neighbors, Nelson Snovel's, on Monday afternoon. About two o'clock while untying his team to go home he was attacked by a stroke of apoplexy and within a few minutes became unconscious, remaining so until his death which occurred a little more than two days later.

He leaves a wife, two daughters and one son to mourn the loss of a dear husband and father. Three sisters and two brothers survive him--all living in Pennsylvania except one sister who lives in North Dakota. He also leaves a large circle of friends who sympathize deeply with the family in their bereavement.
