Another Pioneer Gone

Jacob Miller passed away at his home at Ivester Sunday, Feb. 20, at the age of nearly 78 years. Mr. Miller has been failing in health for some time past, having been under the doctor's care for about a year, but his death was due mainly to a general wearing out of the physical body.

Having came to this county at an early date, 1869, he was generally known by everyone in the community in which he lived. He was a man faithful to whatever duty might be placed upon him and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. He performed faithfully the duty of janitor of the church at Ivester for many years until his health would no longer permit. "A good old man," is what we hear from all who speak of Jacob Miller.

Deceased was born in Franklin county, Pa., July 5, 1832, and died at his home in Grundy county, Iowa, Feb. 20, 1910, aged 77 years, 7 months and 15 days; he was the eighth of a family of thirteen children. In 1848 he moved with his parents to Carroll county, Ill. He was married to Margaret Boyer of Mt. Carroll, Ill., July 6, 1854, to this union were born seven children, three daughters preceded him.

In 1869 they moved to Grundy county Iowa, where he resided until his death. His wife, three sons, one daughter and one foster daughter survive him; he also leaves one brother, one sister, fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren besides many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at Ivester, Tuesday afternoon, after which interment was made in the Sheller cemetery.
