Mrs. Lillie Slifer Died Monday

Mrs. Lillie Mae Slifer died Monday morning at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for two weeks. Mrs. Slifer had been in ill health for the past year and suffered a stroke about a week ago. She was 79 years old.

Funeral services were held at the Engelkes Funeral Home, Wednesday, August 17. She was buried at the Sheller cemetery near[sic]

Rev. Gerben Van Putten officiated at the service.

Mrs. Slifer was born in Texas, Feb. 26, 1876. At the age of six years she was adopted by the John White family. On February 4, 1896, she was married to Ervil O. Slifer, and they farmed in Grundy county except for 6 years when they farmed near Worthington, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Slifer retired to Grundy Center in 1940, where she had been living since.

She is survived by four sons: Kenneth, of Anchorage, Alaska; Raymond, Conrad; Ralph, Whitten; Clarence W., Grundy Center; four daughters, Viola, Grundy Center; Maybelle, Waterloo; Mrs. Ethel Maack, Delevan, Wisconsin; and Mrs. Hazel Lockridge, Tampa, Fla.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one foster sister, Miss Bess White of Grundy Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one sister.

Mrs. Slifer was a member of the First Presbyterian church and the W.R.C.
