Adam Messer Died In Nursing Home At Waterloo

Adam G. Messer, whose home was in Grundy county 85 years, died Monday night at the Edith Nursing Home in Waterloo. He was stricken with a heart attack at the home and died before he could be moved to a hospital. He was 88 years old.

The body was brought to the Ferree funeral home in Grundy Center where arrangements were made. The body will remain at the funeral home until Friday when it will be taken to the church at Ivester where services will be held at 1:30. The service will be conducted by Rev. C. A. Albin. Burial will be in the Sheller cemetery.

Adam Messer was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Messer. He was born on a farm near Vinton. At the age of 2 he came to Grundy county with his parents, who purchased a farm in West Palermo township, a portion of which has remained in the Messer name ever since. Adam grew up on the farm and for a number of years taught a rural school until he was married, after which he and his first wife resided on the Messer farm. The first wife died in the twenties. He was married a second time in 1931 at Rockford, Ill.

There were three sons and one daughter from the first marriage. They are Ruth Messer from Westside Chicago; Kenneth from Westside Chicago; Norman from Denver, Iowa, and Russell from Elgin, Ill. Other surviving members of his family are the second wife and two step-children and one sister, Hannah, who also resides at the Edith rest home.
