Ivester Rites For D. L. Butler

D. L. Butler, 66, well known Melrose township farmer, passed away at the Marshalltown Area Community hospital East at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 1974.

Services were held in the Ivester Church of the Brethren Saturday morning at 10 o'clock with Rev. Alan Kieffaber officiating. Mrs. Howard Cakerice was organist and vocalists were Galen Albright, Glen Button, Charles Sword and Charles Sheller.

Pallbearers were Jerry and Ronald Hayes, Lyle Neher, Richard Butler, Hal Hayes and Lloyd Draper. Mrs. Les Anderson and Mrs. Velma Katzer were floral attendants. Burial was in the Sheller cemetery. Andrle and Creps Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.

Mr. Butler was born May 3, 1908 in Keokuk county, Iowa, son of Henry N. and Mary E. Butler. He attended rural school in Keokuk county. The family moved to Mount Morris, Illinois in 1924. He graduated from Mount Morris High School in 1926 and from Mount Morris College in 1930.

On October 2, 1932 he was united in marriage to Zelma Pierce at the David I. Meyers home in the Ivester community, Grundy County. They lived in Mount Morris from the date of their marriage until the spring of 1933 when they moved to the Ivester community, where he was actively engaged in farming until March 1974.

Mr. Butler was an active member of the Church of the Brethren district men's work and Marshalltown Old Folks Home boards.

He was active in the Farm Bureau, having served as County Vice-chairman one year and on various other committees. In February of 1953, Mr. Butler became an agent for the Grundy Mutual Insurance Association, was elected to the board of directors in February 1954, and served as president from February 1966 until his resignation in February of 1974 because of failing health.

Mr. Butler is survived by his wife, Zelma; two sons, Donald L. of rural Grundy Center and Dr. Edward R., Bowling Green, Ohio; one daughter, Eileen, of Hillsboro, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Hayes, Rochelle, Illinois; two brothers, Elmer and Floyd, both of Mount Morris, Illinois; five grandchildren; two aunts, one niece and seven nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.
