Mrs. Byrd Meyers, 95, Died Sunday

Mrs. Byrd Meyers, 95, passed away quietly Sunday afternoon. She had been taken to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital at Grundy Center Saturday after ailing for several days.

Services were held from the Ivester Church of the Brethren Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 7.

Rev. John Ditmars officiated with Mrs. Harold Hogle, Mrs. Lawrence Pence and Mrs. Glen Moats as flower ladies and Mrs. Marvin Heikens as organist and Mrs. Charles Kruse, vocalist.

Casket bearers were Ernest Draper, Fred Draper, Glen Button, Clare Albright, Hollis Miller and Linus Doughty.

Mrs. Meyers was born to William and Mary Sheller Miller on March 5, 1875 in Melrose township on the same farm where she resided at the time of her death with her daughter and son-in-law, Maryann and Tom Reeder and grandson, Doyle.

She spent her childhood in the Ivester community and later attended normal school at teacher's college in Cedar Falls. She married Stanley Meyers Dec. 7, 1899, after which they moved to Cando, N.D. They returned to Kossuth county in 1900 and after several years of farming in Kossuth and Grundy counties, moved to Grundy Center.

In March of 1917 they moved to the home farm to care for her invalid mother and following the death of her parents, bought the Melrose township farm. The couple celebrated their golden anniversary in December of 1949. He preceded her in death in 1954. Mrs. Meyers was a long-time member of the Ivester Church.
