Clarence Slifer, 87

Clarence Slifer, of Grundy Center, passed away on Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes. He attained the age of 87 years, nine months and eight days.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ivester Church of the Brethren in rural Grundy County. Burial was in the Sheller Cemetery in Grundy County. Pastor Timothy Button-Harrison and Rev. Marlene Neher officiated. A memorial fund has been established at the Ivester Church of the Brethren.

Clarence was born on Feb. 4, 1912, in Grundy Center the son of Jacob and Celia (Burns) Slifer. He was united in marriage to Ruth Willard on Oct. 2, 1934, at the Ivester Church of the Brethren in rural Grundy County. Clarence farmed his entire life west of Grundy Center.

Clarence was a member of the Ivester Church of the Brethren, where he served as head usher for many years. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, he also enjoyed bowling and being an avid member of the Grundy National Bank's New Perspectives Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth and his parents.

Survivors include his son, Gaylen of Lowrey City, MO; two granddaughters, Gaye Ellen Pilgrim and Ann Renee Balk; and six great-grandchildren.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, GC, was in charge of the arrangements.
