Richard "Dick" Wolford, 85

Memorial services were held at Lunning Chapel in Burlington on Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, for Richard "Dick" Wolford, age 85, of Burlington, who died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

The body was cremated with full military rites provided by VFW Posts 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 50 and Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League. A memorial fund has been established for the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown. Lunning Chapel in Burlington was in charge of the arrangements.

He was born January 23, 1918, in Eldora, the son of John Wolford and Ada Ethel (Smith) Wolford. He was united in marriage on May 6, 1936, to Inez Mitchell Wolford in Fairmont, MN. He entered the Navy and served in WWII in the South Pacific from 1944-1945. He was a truck driver for 40 years and a police officer in Webster City from 1947-1949

He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and attended West Burlington United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Inez Wolford of Marshalltown; daughter, Linda Vandeman of Ashland, NE; son, Darwin Wolford of Burlington; and daughter, Leanna Leffel of Elkhart, IN; two sisters, Lucille Wolford Strauss of Tama, and Margaret Ellen White of Marshalltown; seven brothers, Milo Schwarck of Charles City, Dale Schwarck of New Providence, Victor Schwarck of Union, Donald Schwarck of Union, Carl David Schwarck of Marshalltown, Paul Schwarck of Grundy Center, and Maurice Schwarck of Eldora.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one great-granddaughter, and one brother.
