Lester A. Hoffa Dies Suddenly At His Home

Lester A. Hoffa died suddenly at his home eight miles southwest of Grundy Center at five o'clock Tuesday evening during a heart attack. He had been out in the barn doing chores. As he entered the kitchen he suddenly started to keel over. His wife who was near caught him and kept him from falling. He died without uttering a sound or saying a word.

While his health had not been good the past few years, he had kept on with his work at the farm. His condition was not regarded as serious. He had been as well as usual during the day.

Had he lived until today he would have been 56 years old. He lived on the same farm all of his life. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hoffa, among the early residents of Melrose township, Grundy county.

Mr. Hoffa was twice married. His first wife who died a number of years after her marriage was Emma Dinnes. He was married a second time in 1923 to Mrs. Fred Pabst. There are two children from this marriage, Ernest, 17, and Leon, 11, who with their mother survive. Other surviving relatives are his step-daughter, Mrs. Wayne Newton; two brothers and one sister. The brothers are Iber from Belle Plaine and Harve from Marshalltown. One sister, Mrs. Marna Sayer, lives in California. Another sister, Mrs. Adam Messer, died several years ago.

Funeral services will be held at the Coffman funeral home at one o'clock on Friday and later at the Ivester church. Rev. Earl M. Frantz will have charge of the services.
