Obituary Of Sarah Jane Peck

Sarah Jane Archer, daughter of Steven and Mary Archer was born Nov. 19, 1844, in Kane County near Elgin, Illinois.

She came to Iowa, with her parents in a covered wagon, when about eighteen years of age to a farm in Grundy County.

On Jan. 27, 1864, she was united in marriage to Nelson H. Peck. To this union three children were born. Two children, a baby and Freddie, age five, preceded her in death. Mr. Peck passed away March 16, 1915, just twenty four years ago.

When a young woman she became a member of the First Adventist Church in which she retained a life membership.

Her only sister Mary Kennison preceded her in death, Saturday, March 11, 1939.

Mrs. Peck lived in New Hartford for forty years and was the oldest resident of town. She had been bedfast since Christmas and had received all the care that loving hands could give her.

She passed away Tuesday noon, March 14th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Virgia Horner at the age of 94 years, three months and 23 days.

Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Horner, with whom she made her home, and her many friends she had made during her long residence here.

At her request, the funeral services were conducted in the home Thursday morning March 16th by Rev. F. L. Hinshaw of the M.E. Church.

She was laid to rest beside her husband in Fairfield Cemetery in Grundy County.

Casket bearers were: Charles Whitney Sr., Jarvis Whitney, Lloyd Perrin, Dick Huisman, Mike Whalen and M. L. Chapman.
