Services Held For John Koch

John J. Koch passed away on Wednesday morning, May 18, at his home in Dike. He attained the age of 88 years, 4 months, 11 days.

Funeral services were held at the Fredsville Lutheran Church, rural Cedar Falls, on May 20 at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Don Benson officiated.

The congregation sang "Amazing Grace" and "O Day Full Of Grace". The accompanist was Glenda Beatch, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Gary Andersen, Neal Thuesen, Wayne Paige, William Bohr, Glen Neilsen, and Gordon Sloth.

Ushers were Raymond Johnson and Arlan Andersen. Mrs. Helga Mikkelsen and Mrs. Irene Jensen were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Fredsville Cemetery.

John Jensen Koch, son of Niels Petersen and Cathrina Maria Klindt Koch, was born January 7, 1900, at Tarm, Denmark. He immigrated to America in April of 1919, settling in Independence, IA.

On January 24, 1929, he was united in marriage to Anna Nytoft in Cedar Falls. After their marriage, they farmed near Hudson from 1929 to 1938 when they moved to the farm in rural Cedar Falls.

He retired from farming in 1967, but still remained active in farming by helping his son, Dennis.

In 1983, he and his wife, Anna, moved and made their home in Dike. In December of 1986, Anna became a resident of the Grundy Care Center. He made his home alone until the fall of 1987, when Dennis and Donna made their home in Dike. He was a long time member of the Fredsville Lutheran Church and a 25 year member of the Danish Brotherhood, Lodge #144 in Dike.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 10 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, of the Grundy Care Center, Grundy Center; his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Donna Koch, rural route, Dike; four grandchildren, Denise Matthes, North English, Karla Greer, Marlboro, MA, Paul Koch, rural Cedar Falls, and John A. Koch of Dike; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Matthes.

The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
