Funeral Tuesday At Local Church For Okko Jaspers
Okko Jaspers, 73, died early Sunday at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, where he had been a patient since August 12 for treatment of cancer.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Eastfriesland Presbyterian Church, of rural Ackley, with Rev. David Dupee and Rev. Glen Jaspers officiating.
Special music for the service was provided by soloist Mrs. Gordon Fritz and organist Mrs. Virgil Heetland. Flower attendants were Mrs. Darrell Bleeker, Mrs. Ernest Kruse and Mrs. Ivan Jaspers.
Casket bearers were Arthur H. Miller, Thomas A. Kruse, Harold Jaspers, Paul Jaspers, Donald Oelmann and Leonard Oelmann.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Doyen Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements.
He was born on a farm in Hardin county, rural Steamboat Rock, on February 17, 1902, the son of Alle and Harmke (Martens) Jaspers. He attended the rural school in the area.
On September 28, 1925, he was united in marriage to Stena Kruse, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Heye Kruse. Following their marriage they made their home on the Jaspers home-place farm. In 1961 they moved to their present farm place.
Mr. Jaspers was baptized in the Eastfriesland Presbyterian Church of Ackley on June 7, 1902 and became a member of the church on September 3, 1922. He was elected as a Trustee of the Church in 1951 and ordained as an Elder on December 28, 1958.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Harmke Johnson; two brothers; two sisters; and two granddaughters.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Stena; one daughter, DeLores Fae, at home; one son, Alle Virgil Jaspers of Steamboat Rock; his daughter-in-law, Virginia Jaspers; two grandsons, Allen and Vaughn Jaspers; one sister, Mrs. Ernest (Florence) Oelmann of Ackley and many other relatives and friends.
