Calvin Freese

Calvin Herman Freese was born on June 3, 1926 in Hardin County near Ackley, the son of Christian J. and Edna (Greve) Freese. Calvin passed away at his own home in rural Ackley on March 3, 1993, at the age of 66 years.

Calvin went to the Ackley school system. He served in the Army and spent his adult life farming south of Ackley. He was always interested and active in conservation concerns.

Calvin was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ackley for thirty-six years, joining in 1957. He served his Church as an Elder and Trustee.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jeanette Shaffer.

Calvin leaves four sisters, Norma Neymeyer of Greene, Erma Moreland of Garden Grove, California, Darlene Bull of Rockford, Illinois and Sharon Sietsema of Northwood; eleven nieces and nephews, Lynette Anderson, Teresa Joens, Cheryl Neymeyer, Loren Neymeyer, Debra Weir, Joe Moreland, Shon Bull, Kristen Weitzel, Jeff Sietsema, Chad Sietsema and Piper Sleichter; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 8, 1993 at the First Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Donald Martin officiating. Elaine Willms was organist and vocalist was Kendall Starek; ushers were Harry Kannegieter and Vernon Willms. The flower committee was Edna Essman, Pearl Essman and Marlene Kuper. Honorary casketbearers were Russell Beving and Vincent Groninga. Casketbearers were David Deike, Kent Keninger, Brian Kuper, LeRoy Kuper, Ron Neuberger and Dale Schultz. Interment was the East Friesland Presbyterian Church cemetery. The Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
