Edna A. Freese

Edna A. Freese was born August 5, 1905 in Wall Lake, the daughter of Herman and Olga (Kies) Greve. Edna passed away at the Presbyterian Home in Ackley on March 8, 1992, at the age of 86 years.

Edna received her education in Wall Lake.

In 1923, on the very happy day of December 26th, Edna A. Greve and Christian J. Freese were united in marriage in Wall Lake at the family home. Edna and Chris farmed south of Ackley for 33 years and had six children. They retired and moved to Ackley in 1956. She enjoyed her Neighborhood Club and was a "Homewife" giving her time and love to her home and especially to her family.

Edna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ackley for thirty-five years, being baptised at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church in 1905 and confirmed in the Wall Lake Lutheran Church in 1921. Edna had been a very active member of the Ladies Aid of First Presbyterian Church during her church life.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chris in 1957; her daughter Jeanette Shaffer in 1976; two brothers, William and Arthur; and one sister, Rose.

Edna leaves her son, Calvin of Ackley; four daughters and eleven grandchildren, Norma Neymeyer of Greene, and children Cheryl Neymeyer and Loren Neymeyer; Erma Moreland of Garden Grove, California and children Debra Weir and Joe Moreland; Darlene Bull of Rockford, Illinois and children Shon Bull and Kristan Weitzel; and Sharon Sietsema of Northwood and children Jeff Sietsema, Chad Sietsema and Piper Sleichter; plus eight-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 12, 1992 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Donald L. Martin officiating. Agnes Brizzi was organist and soloist was Elaine Willms. The flower committee was Edna Essman, Pearl Essman and Esther Heffelmeier. Ushers were Donald Boheman and Vernon Willms. Honorary casketbearers were Piper Sleichter and Jeff Sietsema. Casketbearers were Frank Anderson, Jeff Joens, Chad Sietsema, Shon Bull, Loren Neymeyer and Dr. John Sleichter. Interment was in the East Friesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
