Dora Berends

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 4, from the Biersborn Funeral Home in Union for Mrs. Dora Berends, 90, of Clemons. Mrs. Berends died Sunday in a Marshalltown Hospital. Rev. Darrell Bailey officiated with interment in the East Friesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Berends was born March 1, 1892 at Cleves, the daughter of John and Fanny Igus Boyenga. She was raised and educated in Cleves and Ackley and attended the Independent School of Nursing.

On Sept. 30, 1910 she was married to Able Berends in Eldora. They lived in Minnesota, Mason City, Cleves, Montour and she has resided the past five years in Clemons with a son. She was preceded in death by her husband, two infant sons, five brothers and one great-grandson.

Survivors include three children, John of Clemons, Peter of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Dora Borcher of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
