Mildred F. Clifford, 79, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at her home in Evansville, Indiana.
Milly is survived by her husband of 51 years, Samuel G. Clifford Jr. of Evansville; son, John Grant Clifford and his wife, Kay G. Clifford, of Charlotte N.C.; daughter, Elizabeth Jean Clifford of Norfolk, Va.; grandchildren, Carrie G. Clifford and Andrew R. Clifford of Charlotte, N.C.
She was a graduate of the University of Iowa, and came to Evansville in 1953 as Field Director for the Girl Scouts.
Milly was a longtime member and former Deacon of First Presbyterian Church. She was active in many community organizations, including a term as President of the Christian Home, and served on the boards of the YWCA, Junior League, Broadway Theatre League, Neighborhood House, Visiting Nurse Association, Reitz Home Museum, and Community Council. She spent many years as a Goodwill volunteer, and she was a member of the CC Chapter of P.E.O.
Milly loved to travel, especially to Britain, and enjoyed antiquing, reading, gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was known for her compassion and generosity, and much of her life was devoted to helping others.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2006, at First Presbyterian Church, officiated by Reverend Kevin Fleming, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, January 11, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Alexander East Chapel and Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time at First Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 609 S.E. Second Street, Evansville, IN 47713 or to the Visiting Nurse Association, 610 East Walnut Street, Evansville, IN 47708. Arrangements by Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave.

Mildred F. Clifford, 79, died January 9, 2006, at her home in Evansville, IN. Services were held on January 12 at the First Presbyterian Church in Evansville.
Milly was born June 19, 1926, in Wellsburg, to John L. (Jack) and Grace (Huisman) Fischer. She was a graduate of Wellsburg High School and the University of Iowa, and moved to Evansville in 1953 as Field Director for the Girl Scouts.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel G. Clifford, Jr.; son, John Grant Clifford (Kay); daughter, Elizabeth Clifford; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother.
