Lorraine was born on March 5, 1925 in Grundy County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Herman and Anna (Finger) DeVries of Wellsburg. Lorraine attended rural country school in Grundy County and graduated from the Wellsburg High School in 1943. On May 22, 1948 Lorraine was united in marriage to Wilbert Sinning at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Wilbert died on August 22, 1980. She married Herman Boelts in 1983 and he passed away on March 20, 1997.
Lorraine was a cook in the lunch room for the Ackley-Geneva School system for 27 years. Her specialty was homemade cinnamon rolls which the school children loved. She completed the Geriatric Aide course in 1979 and worked at the Presbyterian Village for 7 years. She enjoyed taking care of the residents and developed many lasting friendships with other staff members. Later in life she would visit the "old people" at the Village even though she was older than most of them. She still spoke fluent German and was one of the few people who could still speak German to the older residents. The most important aspect of Lorraine's life was her family. She attended nearly every athletic, vocal, and band event that her nearby grandchildren, Brent and Kristin participated in. She was also very involved with her great-grandchildren. Lorraine was an excellent cook and was known for her cookies, pumpkin bars, banana bars, and banana bread. She also grew beautiful flowers and was a bird lover.
Lorraine is survived by her son, Craig Sinning and his wife, Debbie of Mankato, MN; a daughter, Mary Stover and her husband, Jon of Iowa Falls; a granddaughter, Kristin Tidman and her husband, Brian of New Providence; three grandsons, Brent Stover and his wife, Carrie of Florence, KY, Shannon Sinning and his wife, Amy of Mankato, MN, and Jason Sinning and his wife, Maggie of Plymouth, MN; and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Pam Fuller and her husband, Rod of Wellsburg.
A memorial will be established at a later date.
