Velma Copeland, age 90 of Iowa Falls, past away Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Hubbard Care Center. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Monday at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls with burial in the Northlawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. The Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Velma Freida Copeland was born on December 12, 1925 on a farm in Wellsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Ibeling and Hermine (Mayland) Harms. She graduated from the Wellsburg High School in 1943. Velma was united in marriage to Harley Copeland on September 4, 1948 in Wellsburg. They moved to Eldora after being married for 1 1/2 years and then moved to Iowa Falls in 1950.
She worked at the Times Citizen in Iowa Falls. Then later, she and her husband owned and operated EZ Park Grocery in Iowa Falls from 1972-1981, and then worked at Riverside Book and Bible for eight years.

Velma was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, Order of the Moose Lodge #1108, and the East Side Ladies Aid. She was loved and cared for by the Hubbard Care Center staff for over ten years.

Velma is survived by her son, James Copeland of Cincinnati, OH; a daughter, Janet (Clint) Schutt of Alden; ten grandchildren, James, Dawn, Brenda and Tyler, Matt, Travis (Jamie), Brooke, Ashley and Blake; six great grandchildren Kiley, Cael, Kenley, Enzo, Ebea, Trevor and one unborn child, baby Webb; a brother, Eldon (Sheryl) Harms of Wellsburg and lots of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harley; and two sisters, Lorraine Ersland and LaVine Winters.
