Rites Held For Odie Meyer

Odie Meyer, 68, of Marshalltown, passed away at Marshalltown Area Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. Dr. Thomas Bower officiated.

Burial was in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Meyer was born on November 9, 1919, in Shiloh township, near Wellsburg, the son of Wiebe and Grace Nederhoff Meyer. He received his education in the Wellsburg area and was confirmed in the Second Christian Reformed Church.

On May 15, 1942, he was united in marriage to LaVine Heronimus. They made their home in the Wellsburg area. He was engaged in farming. For a few years he drove a truck delivering lime and was also co-owner of the DX Service Station in Wellsburg.

In 1965, they moved to Marshalltown and he was employed as an assembler at Fisher Controls, until retiring in 1982 due to a disability.

Mr. Meyer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Local 893 UAW.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister in infancy, one sister, Clara deNeui, his step-mother, two step-brothers and one step-sister.

He is survived by his wife, LaVine; one son, Lynn and his wife, Betty of Marshalltown; three granddaughters, Mrs. Michael (Lisa) Weuve of Copperas Cove, TX, and Shelley and Kristin of Marshalltown; one brother, Harm Meyer and one sister, Mrs. John (Gertrude) Hoodjer, both of Wellsburg; one step-sister, Nellie Deters of Eldora; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

The Estel-Perris-Avey Funeral Home, Marshalltown, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
