Edward Meyer Services Held

Edward S. "Blinkie" Meyer, 75, of Washington, Missouri, passed away Friday, February 17, at Cedarcrest Manor in Washington.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 19, at 2 p.m. at the Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home, Washington, with Rev. William Schwab officiating. Interment was in St. Peters U.C.C. Cemetery, Washington. The Legionnaires served as pallbearers.

Mr. Meyer was born on August 8, 1919, in Grundy Center to Siebe H. Meyer and his wife Nantje, nee Riekena. He received his education in the rural schools and graduated from high school at Wellsburg in 1938. He served his country honorably during World War II. He was married on July 28, 1945, at Washington, Missouri, to Mildred Riechers. Blinkie was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ, American Legion Post 218, and a life member of the Elks Lodge, having been the "Elk of the Year" in 1973. He was employed at McDonnell Douglas as a machinist for many years.

Besides his parents, he has been preceded in death by his brothers Clarence and Harley Meyer; and two sisters, Clara Meyer and Freda Boelman.

He is survived by his wife Mildred, five sisters, Gertrude DeNeui, Min Harlan and Donna Meyer, all of Wellsburg; Eva Widmann of Mesa, Arizona, and Clareen and husband Robert Baehr of Bella Vista, Arkansas; one sister-in-law, Helen Riechers of Washington; one brother-in-law, Roy and wife Verna Riechers, also of Washington; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
