Lillian Nieman Services Held

Lillian Nieman, 70, of Shell Rock, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 18 at the Waverly Municipal Hospital where she had been a patient since August 7.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on September 21 at the Shell Rock United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith E. Hamilton and Nate Frezee officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock.

Lillian Marie Jaspers was born on August 14, 1921, in Wellsburg, the daughter of Harm J. and Kate (Vennenga) Jaspers. She graduated from the Wellsburg High School and then went to the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls where she received her Teaching Certificate. She later attended Simpson College in Indianola and Wartburg College in Waverly. She taught school at the elementary level in Meservy, Conrad, and Green Mountain.

On November 25, 1950, she was united in marriage to James H. Nieman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home in Shell Rock and she continued teaching in Finchford and then in Shell Rock retiring in 1966. She had been a substitute teacher the last two years. She then helped her husband with his duties as Executive Secretary of the Janesville Bowling Association. She was a 37 year member of the Rural Mail Carriers Auxiliary and a member of the Shell Rock United Methodist Church. She has been in and out of the hospitals in Rochester, Minnesota, and in Waverly, since February 8 of this year.

Lillian is survived by her husband James H. Nieman; her son and daughter-in-law James "Chuck" and Karen Nieman of Shell Rock; two grandchildren, Clinton Tyler Nieman and Kelsey Leigh Nieman; two sisters-in-law, Harriett Jaspers of Cedar Falls and Mrs. Paul (Janice) Brown of Waterloo; three nieces; four nephews; four grand-nephews and three grand-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Jake Jaspers, Franklin Jaspers, and LeRoy Jaspers.

Kaiser Corson Funeral Homes, Inc. were in charge of arrangements.
