Maude Clark, age 98, of Hubbard, IA, died on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Eldora Nursing & Rehab Center in Eldora, IA.
Ila Maude (Newell) Clark was born on October 13, 1914. She was born in Melrose Township, Grundy County, Iowa, the fifth child of six children born to Frank and Myrtle (Reynolds) Newell. Maude was baptized at an early age in the Church of the Brethren at Ivester. She attended school and graduated from Wellsburg, Iowa in 1934.
She met the love of her life on the courthouse square in Eldora on a Saturday night. Merrill Derrick Clark and Ila Maude Newell were married on November 28, 1935 at the home of her parents in Melrose Township, Grundy County, Iowa. They were members of the Point Pleasant Church until it closed; they then joined the Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard.
They took in Archie Forbes to live with them and had three children. They farmed their entire working life in Hardin County, retiring in 1978. They lived 54 years in the Cottage Community and moved to Hubbard in June of 1994.
Maude was a homemaker. Her hands were always busy. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting and sewing. She had a love for flowers and cats. Maude was known for her family holiday meals and the family tradition of homemade ice cream. She belonged to the Hobby Club. She enjoyed music and singing gospel songs. Maude was a resident of the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Care Facility where she died Sunday morning, July 7, 2013.
Preceding were her parents, husband Merrill in 1995, her siblings Alice, Maynard, Frances, Helen and Raymond and one granddaughter Joyce Krogh.
Survivors include two daughters Betty (Dean) Schnormeier of Hubbard, Karen (Glen) Granzow of Phoenix, AZ; two sons Dwight (Candace) Clark of Eldora and Archie (Gladys) Forbes of Hubbard; grandchildren Sharon Meineke, Sandra Foster, Steve Schnormeier, Tamie Granzow, Glendon Granzow, Teresa Gilbreth, Jason Granzow, Morgan Rogers, Derek Clark, Denny Forbes and Carol Smith; great-grandchildren Preston and Blake Meineke, Samuel and Elizabeth Ila Foster, Dustin Schnormeier, Tiffany, Keely, Linzy, Riley Gilbreth, Dylan Granzow, Phoebe Rogers, Wyatt Clark, Kelly Forbes and family, Chris Forbes and family and Kyle Krogh and family; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center.
