Helen Johns
Mrs. Helen Johns, 75, passed away suddenly in Steamboat Rock Monday morning, December 21. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church southeast of Ackley with burial in the Hazel Green Cemetery southwest of Ackley.
She is survived by two sons, Dean of Ackley and Leland of Tiburon, California; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Ulferts of Portage, Wisconsin; Mrs. Elsie Ascher of Parkersburg; and one brother, Herbert Lutterman of Pensacola, Florida.
Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Brandt & Fritz Funeral Home in Ackley.
Mrs. Johns was preceded in death by her parents and one infant son, and her husband Merle in 1971.

Helen Julia Johns
Helen Julia Johns was born May 3, 1912 on the family farm near Wellsburg, the daughter of Henry and Annie Siebrandts Lutterman. She graduated from the Wellsburg High School. On May 30, 1930 she and Merle Johns were married. They lived on the family farm west of Cleves for 26 years before moving to Steamboat Rock in 1956. They were members of the Abbott Evangelical Church after they were married and in 1951 transferred their membership to the East Friesland Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Johns was active in the Democratic Party and served as Precinct Committee Woman for a number of years. She was an active member of the Steamboat Rock Progress Club of which she held various offices. She was an officer of the Hazel Green Cemetery association. She was also a member of the Ladies Missionary Guild of her church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Merle, and an infant son, Nelson Jon. Survivors include two sons, Leland and his wife, Helen Jon of Tiburon, California, and Dean and his wife, Jane, of Ackley; two grandchildren, Merle and his wife, Julia, of Ackley and Diane of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sisters, Grace Ulferts of Portage, Wash., and Mrs. Henry C. (Elsie) Ascher of Parkersburg and one brother, Herbert Lutterman of Pensacola, Fla.
Funeral services were held December 24, at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Donald Martin officiating. Organist was Debra Wentzien and singers were Marlene Oelmann and Arlene Heetland. Pallbearers were Robert Finger, Ernest Kruse, Leonard Oelmann, Orville Wilts, Frederic Fisher and Juchem Juchems. Ushers were Delbert B. Lindaman and Delbert J. Lindaman. Interment was in Hazel Green cemetery. The Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
