Erma Johns Jacobs Buried December 31
Funeral services were held Saturday for Mrs. Harlow Jacobs, who passed away at West Union Christmas Day. Prayer service was held at the Jacobs home in West Union at 9:30 a.m., followed by a service conducted by Rev. Fisher at the Presbyterian church which Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs had attended, and of whose Ladies' Aid Society Mrs. Jacobs was a member.
At 2:30 in the afternoon a short impressive service was held at the Second Christian Reformed church in Wellsburg by the pastor, Dr. John C. DeKorne. The church was filled with relatives and sympathizing friends who came to pay their last respects to the former Wellsburg girl.
During the service Mrs. Clarence Beecroft sang two beautiful songs, accompanied by Mrs. Gertrude Koolman. The floral tributes which were many and beautiful, were in charge of Mrs. H. L. Luwe, Miss Bertha Doyen, Mrs. Grace Heikens and Mrs. H. W. Ross.
The casket carriers were Harold Geerdes and C. W. Ross, of Wellsburg, Roy Johns of Ackley, Ray Johns and Walter Johns of Waterloo, and Rob Johns of Eldora, the last four being cousins of the deceased. Interment was made in Hazel Green cemetery by the side of her parents and brother.

Jacobs, Waterloo, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Johns and son Leonard, Waterloo, Iowa; Mrs. Otis McCann, Waterloo, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Johns and son Frederick, Ackley, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johns and daughter Pearl, Eldora, Iowa; Mrs. Birney Jackson, Eldora, Iowa; Mrs. Howard Himbel, Ackley, Iowa; Walter Johns, Waterloo, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Johns and daughter Velma, Ackley, Iowa; Mrs. Cora Johns, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Murry, Rockford, Illinois.
Obituary
Erma Viola Johns was born Jan. 18, 1907, at Abbott, Iowa. She passed away at the age of 28 years, 11 months and 7 days, at 4:30 p.m., Dec. 25, at a hospital at West Union, Iowa, from complications following the birth of a daughter by a caesarian operation.She was the daughter of Edward and Emma Johns, both deceased. At the age of 14 years she came to Wellsburg and made her home with her sister, Mrs. D. W. Riekena. She graduated from the Wellsburg high school in 1925. She was a member of the Bible class of the Wellsburg Second Christian Reformed church Sunday school, of the Helping Hands Society, and of the American Legion Auxiliary. She attended Ellsworth College at Iowa Falls and taught a rural school near here for one year. Later she graduated from Gates Business College at Waterloo and was employed as a stenographer in Independence, Cedar Falls and by the Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo.
She was baptized and joined the Evangelical church at Abbott at the age of eight years.
She was married to Harlow Fay Jacobs May 29, 1934, at Rockford, Ill. She is survived by her husband, infant daughter, Carol Faye, four sisters, and two brothers. Her parents and brother Lester preceded her in death. The sisters are Mrs. Flossie Asher of Steamboat Rock, Mrs. Grace Riekena of Wellsburg, Mrs. Laura Oelmann and Mrs. Kate Oelmann of Ackley; the brothers are Allen Johns and Merle Johns of Ackley. She leaves many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
