Marilyn M. Roelfs, 62, of Ackley, Iowa passed away Monday, December 5, 2011, at her home. A memorial service for Marilyn M. Roelfs will be 11:00 am Thursday, December 8, 2011, at the Ackley United Methodist Church, 416 Hardin Street, Ackley, Iowa. A time of visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, December 7th also at the Ackley United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at the East Friesland Cemetery, rural Ackley, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family c/o her husband: David Roelfs, Ackley. The Linn's Funeral Home, Ackley, is handling the arrangements.

Marilyn Marie Mehmen was born August 14, 1949, at Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Jake Harm and Flora (Meyer) Mehmen. She attended and graduated from the Aplington, Iowa Community Schools with the class of 1967. She started employment at the Parkersburg State Bank before graduation. On June 18, 1971, Marilyn was united in marriage to David Dean Roelfs at the First Reformed Church, Aplington, Iowa. the couple moved to Mankato, Minnesota while Dave finished college and she was employed at Sears in Mankato. After they returned to Iowa, they lived in the Steamboat Rock area and was employed at Tegen's Ben Franklin in Ackley, Iowa. In 1974 the couple moved to the Roelfs' family farm south of Ackley and she began employment as an independent contractor with Bertha Meints. After that she was employed at the Presbyterian Village, Ackley in their environmental services and maintenance departments. Many will remember her as gardener of the grounds. In the later years she also did seasonal work at Anderson's Greenhouse in Ackley. Marilyn was a member of the United Methodist Church, Ackley, the American Legion Auxiliary #252, Ackley, and the TOPS Club.

Marilyn M. Roelfs is survived by her husband: David Roelfs of Ackley, Iowa; one brother: Roland (Norma) Mehmen of Parkersburg, Iowa; two sisters: Betty (David) Thronson of Ackley, Iowa, Marlene (Wayne) Brouwer of Parkersburg, Iowa; and two sisters-in-law: Betty Mehmen and Judy Mehmen, her special aunt and uncle: Vivian and Raymond Kloetzer; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Jake and Flora Mehmen; and two brothers: Derold Mehmen and Kenneth Mehmen.
