Kate Kolthoff, 91, died Monday April 30, 2018 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock with burial in East Friesland Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley.

Kate Janette Risius was born on November 20, 1926 to Claus and Helen Risius. Kate grew up in the Ackley area and graduated 8th grade from Ackley country school. She married John Elmer Kolthoff on March 28, 1945. To this union, four children were born, Denny, Beverly , Cindy, and Janella. Kate was a member of the Steamboat Rock Presbyterian Church and had a strong faith. Kate was a hard worker her entire life. She worked and retired from Plastronics in Grundy Center and spent many years working at the Green Door in Steamboat Rock. She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, and was well known for her twice baked potatoes.

Kate is survived by her daughter Janella (Rick) Verchota of Steamboat Rock, five grandchildren, Kyle (Bridget) Kolthoff of Gurley, AL, Kent (Roberta) Kolthoff of Cedar Rapids, Denelle (Jess) McWherter of Iowa Falls, Derek (Allison) Kolthoff of Cascade, WI, and Jill (Travis) Hollander of Steamboat Rock, IA, and twelve great grandchildren, Kollan, Ian, Anna, Katie, Kelsie, Kallie, Riley, Colby, Ivy, Avery, Audra, and Andie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer, daughters Beverly and Cindy, son Denny, granddaughter Krystal, two brothers and two sisters.
