Obituary

H. Borchers was born in Mohlenwarf, Germany, January 23, 1902; son of Albertus and Gebka Borchers. At the age of three he came to America with his parents and three brothers; settling at Cleves in 1905. Here, together with his father and two brothers he grew to manhood. He attended high school at Eldora and east high Des Moines, graduating in three years (at the same time working his way through). For two years he was manager of a Western Union station in Indiana, for which he traveled as relief manager during his vacation. Then, desiring a higher education, he attended the Iowa State Teachers college last September for a B.A. degree, completing one year and one term.

He was a young man of sterling qualities, possessing a friendly disposition and won a host of friends wherever he was. He was also held in the highest esteem by his roommates. He attended the Presbyterian church at Cedar Falls, being an active member in Christian Endeavor society as chairman, and also teaching a class of boys.

H. Borchers, aged 25 years, 7 months and 4 days, passed away at the Sartoria hospital at 1:40 this p.m., August 27. His death resulted from meningitis which developed from a bad case of nasal infection and sinus trouble for which he had an operation last Saturday.

He leaves to mourn his death, his father Albertus Borchers of Abbott, Iowa, two brothers Jacobus of Marshalltown, and Peter of Wellsburg, also a host of relatives and friends.

The final services were held at the German Presbyterian church, eight miles southeast of Ackley, at which cemetery he was laid at rest by the side of his mother and brothers.
