Edward Harms Is Missing in Action

Edward Harms, son of Mr. and Mrs. Menno Harms living near Cleves, has been missing in action since the 23rd of May. The War Department sent word to the family on Wednesday advising of the missing of their son. Harms was missing following the battle on the Anzio beachhead in Italy.

Edward Harms is 27 years old. He entered the service on January 6, 1943, and received his early training at Ft. Knox, Ky.

Edward Harms is married. His wife was the former Minnie Sanders. They have one 3-year-old son. He has two brothers, Ubbe and Walter, both living at Cleves. The latter is the buttermaker in the Cleves creamery. A sister, Catherine, lives in Marshalltown.

Memorial Service For Edw. Harms

Memorial services for Pvt. Edward Harms of Cleves will be held in the East Friesland Presbyterian church, Ackley, Sunday afternoon, Aug. 26, at 2 o'clock.

Edward Harms, son of Mr. and Mrs. Menno Harms of Cleves, was reported missing in action on May 23, 1944, and has now been reported as killed in action on that date.

Honor Soldier Killed In Italy

Memorial Sunday for Pvt. Edward Harms, 26

Ackley--Memorial services for Pvt. Edward Harms, 26, who was killed in action May 23, 1944, in Italy, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the East Friesland Presbyterian church.

The Rev. Calvin Siemsen will have charge of the services.

Edward was born Aug. 26, 1917, near Cleves, son of Mr. and Mrs. Menno Harms. He followed the carpenter trade with his father before he went into service.

He married Minnie Sanders of Steamboat Rock in 1940, making their home near Cleves. On Jan. 6, 1943, he was inducted into the service and after training went overseas where on June 21, 1944, he was reported missing by the war department.

Beside his wife, he is survived by a son 4 years old, his parents, 2 brothers Ubbe Harms, living near Cleves, and Walter, buttermaker at the Cleves creamery, one sister, Mrs. Kathryn Vancil, Marshalltown.

Memorial Services Were Held for Edward Harms in East Friesland Church

Memorial Services were held in East Friesland Presbyterian church, eight miles southeast of Ackley, in German township, Sunday afternoon, August 26, at 2 o'clock.

Edward Harms was a soldier, who had served several years. First reported "missing in action" on May 24, 1944; his death has subsequently reported as having occurred on that date.

He was killed in Italy. Harms was 26 years of age, born and reared in the community south of Ackley.

Rev. Siemsen pastor of the church, conducted the service.
