Mrs. Becker Services Held
Mrs. VerDene Becker, 71, a resident of the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center, died at 5 a.m. Monday, November 24 of an apparent heart attack.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 26 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center with the Rev. Thomas P. Harp, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Taped musical selections were played for the prelude and postlude.
Casket bearers were Charles I. Goodman, Dale Bee, Jim Duwelius, Charles Baldwin, Carl Palmer and Eldon Smoldt.
Mrs. Ernest Blythe was in charge of the floral tributes.
Entombment was held in the Beckman mausoleum at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.
She was born November 2, 1909 in Grundy Center, the daughter of Fritz S. and Tillie Freese Beckman. She attained the age 71 years and 22 days. VerDene graduated from the State University of Iowa and taught school in Toledo and Van Cleve. She returned to Grundy Center and on May 15, 1948, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown, she was united in marriage to Ernest Becker. Mr. Becker died January 27, 1970. She continued to make her home alone until 1972 when she moved to Tall Corn Towers in Marshalltown. She became a resident of the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center in August, 1977. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by several cousins.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
