Services Held For Will Beckman

William E. Beckman, 93, of Grundy Center died Saturday morning, September 22, 1979 at 6:35 in the Grundy County Memorial hospital, where he had been confined since September 16.

Services were held Monday morning at 10:30 in the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home. Father Harold Strickland of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Cedar Falls, officiated. Taped organ selections were played. Pall bearers were Lloyd Dreesman, Darrell Gillett, Joe Cerne, Dale Bee, Burgess Hawn and M. D. Pitcher. Mrs. Darrell Gillett and Mrs. Joe Cerne were floral attendants. Entombment was in the Beckman Mausoleum, Rose Hill cemetery, Grundy Center.

He was born August 9, 1886 in Grundy Center, Iowa, the son of Otto and Abigail LeGrant Beckman. He graduated from the Grundy Center High School in 1905. On October 27, 1909 he was united in marriage to Savilla Galbraith in Grundy Center. The Beckman's farmed in Grundy County until 1923. They lived in various towns until 1953 when Mr. Beckman retired, and he and his wife returned to Grundy Center to live.

He is survived by one daughter, Plaetus Arnold of Grundy Center, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mary Beckman of Cedar Falls, two brothers, Fritz of Wayzata, Minnesota, Herbert of Hampton and one sister, Mrs. Ernestena Tennant of Colfax. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son and one brother.

A memorial fund has been established. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal church, and former member of the Masonic and Knights of Pythias lodges.
