Death of Mrs. Eppe Arends

Mrs. Eppe F. Arends died at the family home at the east edge of Ackley, on Saturday afternoon after a serious illness extending over more than a year's time. Although the best of medical help and loving care were bestowed there seemed to be no relief.

Banke Smidt Arends was born on August 3, 1869 in Grimuersum, Germany. She came to America in March 1890. She was married to Mr. Eppe F. Arends, Jan 24, 1891, and for the past twenty-seven years they have been well known farmers in the community. Mrs. Arends died March 16, 1918, at the age of 48 years, 7 months and 21 days. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, the Misses Flossie and Anna and five sons, Jerry, Fred, Henry, John and Siebe; also one sister, Mrs. Henry Mennenga of Shell Rock, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Rev. J. J. Agena officiating. The body was laid to rest in the family lot in East Friesland cemetery.

The friends and relatives from out of town who were present at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Menninga and children, Frank, Anna and Rena Menninga of Shell Rock, Mr. and Mrs. Siebe F. Arends, Mr. and Mrs. Fred F. Arends and daughter, Miss Flossie, and Mr. and Mrs. John Betten of Aplington.
