Ervin F. Behrens

Services for Ervin F. Behrens, 79, of Des Moines, formerly of rural Cedar Falls, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John American Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Cemetery, rural Cedar Falls.

Mr. Behrens died Sunday afternoon at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines of a heart attack.

He was born Jan. 18, 1900, in Grundy County, son of William and Matilda Gauger Behrens. He married Cleo Mullens March 12, 1924, in Cedar Falls, and she died in 1962.

He was a graduate of Cedar Falls High School and a 1924 graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in engineering. He worked for Des Moines Electric Power Co. and during the Depression he was director of all projects of the CCC camps in Iowa. He moved to Oklahoma and was chief engineer for the Oklahoma Power Co. General Electric then hired him to supervise the construction of a power plant in India. After his retirement, he was chosen by Governor Robert Ray to serve on the Conservation Board for the state of Iowa. He also was a past president of the Iowa Engineering Society.

Survivors include a son, Milton Behrens of Grundy Center.

Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
